Northern Ireland's biggest solar farm is switched on
Northern Ireland's biggest solar development has now been turned on in Co Antrim.
Solar company Lightsource Renewable Energy said the project would provide over 32 MW of clean energy into the grid - enough to power more than 11,000 homes.
The project is made up of a network of five sites, linked by a single connection to the electricity grid. The sites are at Lough Road, Moira Road, Nutts Corner, Knockcairn and Hillside.
And in a separate move, London-based Lightsource said it had also started generating from a 6 MW project at Millar Farm, also in Antrim.
Chief executive Nick Boyle said: "We are delighted to complete this landmark project in Antrim. This is the most significant solar development on the island of Ireland to date. Domestically generated solar energy has an important role to play in meeting Northern Ireland's energy needs."
Lightsource also operates a solar farm close to Belfast International Airport.
