Belfast IT firm Novosco has won a contract worth nearly £1m with Cork County Council.

Novosco - which employs 120 people in Dublin, Cork and Belfast - won a tender to provide the council with a new system including disaster recovery, back-up and hosted infrastructure.

Cork's council has 1,500 IT users and serves 400,000 people.

Novosco managing director Patrick McAliskey said the €1.25m contract would run for five years - and he hoped it would ease pressure on council employees.

"The partnership approach between Novosco and Cork County Council has the added benefit of taking pressure off Cork's infrastructure, and freeing up their IT staff to work on services and projects more in line with council corporate and ICT strategies," he said.

Novosco was named overall business of the year in this year's Belfast Telegraph Business Awards.
