The $1bn purchase of the Odeon and UCI cinema chains by AMC in the US shows the UK is "open for business", its been claimed.

There is one Odeon in Northern Ireland, in Belfast's Victoria Square, and 11 in the Republic. It has a total of 242 across Europe.

The deal is thought to be the biggest corporate transaction for a UK firm since the vote to leave the EU.

International law firm Pinsent Masons, which has an office in Belfast, advised AMC on the purchase.

Partner Tim Leman said Brexit had been a "hiccup" but "the evidence is there that the UK remains open for business".
