Online magazine launches new app

By Margaret Canning

An online magazine for the community and voluntary sector has launched a new mobile app after collaborating with Belfast Met.

Independent publication View's app goes live on Monday and will contain news and video content about the sector, which employs more than 100,000 people in Northern Ireland.

Magazine editor and founder Brian Pelan and co-founder Una Murphy used an innovation voucher from Invest NI to team up with Belfast Met for their technical know-how.

Mr Pelan said: "It has been great to get assistance from ICT lecturer William Artt from Belfast Metropolitan College under Invest NI's innovation voucher scheme.

"As a small, start-up business it was very helpful to get technical expertise of a very high calibre from our knowledge provider, Belfast Met."

He said the app would enable readers to read the free publication on smartphones and tablets, but added: "The prototype developed by Belfast Metropolitan College will also be very useful to show potential and existing advertisers of View digital magazine the opportunities available to share information about their products and services online. This is another exciting development which is already being distributed to a growing audience in the community and voluntary sector."

The app can be accessed through Google Currents. There have been nine issues of View since it was launched in January.
