Petrol prices drive Halfords down

Soaring petrol prices left their mark on Halfords after it revealed declining car usage had caused a further drop in sales.

The retailer, which has 466 stores, said like-for-like sales fell 2.8% in the 13 weeks to September 3, compared to a 1.1% fall in the previous three months. Sales of car maintenance products fell 3.3%.
