The pub industry is still in decline, the chief executive of the Punch Taverns chain declared yesterday.
Roger Whiteside said drinking out is falling at a constant rate of 3.5% a year, and while pubs with a successful food turnover can grow, those reliant on drink face an uncertain future. Annual revenues fell 6% to £492m and pre-tax profits fell 16% to £64m.
