Quinn's one billion reasons to be proud
Quinn Packaging in Co Cavan says it hopes to supply more products to the meat industry after a multi-million euro investment in technology.
The Ballyconnell-based business, which is part of Quinn Industrial Holdings, already supplies meat trays to companies such as ABP, Dunbia, Liffey Meats, Hilton Foods and Linden Foods.
But it has now spent €3m on technology to increase its supply of food-grade thin gauge sheet.
And it's working on plans to supply polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sheet to a number of European countries.
It has also announced the production of its one billionth meat tray.
General manager Mark McKenna said: "Our recent technology investments fit with our commitment to sustainability and innovation, and give us in-house capabilities which you simply don't find as standard in packaging companies. Our aim is to be at the forefront of eco-innovation in our industry, which enhances the appeal to potential European customers, and gives us a substantial competitive advantage.
"The production of the one billionth tray is a milestone we are particularly proud of. The tray itself was one of the newest additions to our range of meat trays - a vacuum skin tray.
"Whilst vacuum skin trays are relatively new to the meat packaging market, we've seen substantial growth in this range thanks to the significantly increased shelf life of meat packed in these trays.
"It may be one of our newest ranges, but we believe it's one which is set for even greater expansion and development in the coming years, so it wouldn't be a surprise to us if our two billionth meat tray was a more advanced vacuum skin tray."
