Self-employed workers on rise

The number of self-employed workers has jumped by 367,000 since the start of the recession in 2008.

The increase – to 4.2m – has mainly happened since 2011 which saw a rise of 219,000, said the Office for National Statistics. The rise was spread across the UK, except Northern Ireland, where self-employed workers fell.
