Seven degrees of success for staff

Retailer Henderson Group has seen seven of its employees gain new qualifications by helping them study for foundation degrees.

The Spar and Vivo owner has incorporated the degree, a qualification which can be used to progress on to a university degree, in its internal training programme since 2010.

Group training and development manager Justine McGreevey helped develop the Foundation Degree in Retailing in 2010, one which is aimed specifically at Henderson's sector.

"The Foundation Degree in Retailing added value and was a new addition to the varied in-house training and development programme which we offer our staff," she said.

Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry said the specialism which foundation degrees offer is a big benefit for companies.

Employers who would like to find out more about foundation degrees can call 0300 200 7825 to request a leaflet or to arrange a call back from a foundation degree adviser. Those interested in studying for a foundation degree can request a leaflet by texting 'Build' to 66101. Further information is available at www. nidirect.gov.uk/foundation.
