Small firms like ours got a major boost

MY mum and I run a website which includes recipes, a flexible recipe planner and an automatic shopping list generator to help families eat more healthily.

I applied to attend through Invest Northern Ireland and found out in January that I had been successful.

Over just a few days I was able to meet up with people in large multinationals, supermarkets, food companies, television channels and publishers, including firms like Target, PepsiCo, QVC and Unilever.

The people from PepsiCo were really interested in using Sian, my mum, as an advisor. I went out there with a view to raise finance and got the chance to talk to major US investors.

There was also a UK demonstration day where I was able to meet with people from marketing agencies. I came home with a suitcase full of business cards!

It was also good to meet other Northern Ireland companies and meet likeminded, ambitious people.

It was a big boost for us as we are a very small company. It doesn't matter if you are a large business or a small start-up, if you have a good story, people are interested.

Back home we are hoping to get a firmer foothold in Belfast and go out to schools with our cookery classes.
