Telco fined over cash for contracts

A TELECOMS equipment firm has been ordered to pay $137m (£88.7m) after US charges that it paid bribes to win contracts in Latin America and Asia. Alcatel-Lucent, based in France, was accused of bribing government officials in Taiwan, Costa Rica, Honduras and Malaysia. The US Justice Department said the bribes were paid by Alcatel before it bought US-based company Lucent Technologies in 26.
