Tight at the top as finish looms

It's going to be a fight to the finish at the top of the league table in the Investec Wealth and Investment/Business Telegraph School Share Race.

With just one week to go until the competition closes, St Mark's High School, Warrenpoint continue to lead the table, just £2,500 ahead of second placed Loreto College, Coleraine.

Both school teams recorded healthy gains in their portfolios in a week where the FTSE 350 index of leading companies rose by 3%, thereby clawing back almost all of the losses made in the second half of last year.

The performance of the leading teams' portfolios has been nothing short of remarkable - up 28.9% & 26.5% respectively over just four months.

If both teams were to continue with this performance over the course of a year, they would be set to more than double their money.

St Patrick's Grammar School, Downpatrick lead the race for third spot, some £12,000 behind Loreto - but they are closely pursued by Belfast High School, Belfast Royal Academy, Our Lady's Grammar School, Newry and last year's winners Newbridge Integrated College, Loughbrickland.

Only £1000 separates these five schools.

The competition comes to a close next week.
