Titanic Belfast beats Paris' Eiffel Tower to be named best visitor attraction in Europe
Titanic Belfast has fended off one of the most iconic buildings in the world's most romantic city to be named the best visitor attraction in Europe.
While the stunning 300m Eiffel Tower may have breathtaking views of Paris, it was Northern Ireland's top tourist spot which won over the hearts of judges at a major travel awards event in Berlin.
It also beat off competition from artist Claude Monet's grand gardens in France as well as the London Eye.
Travel writer and broadcaster Simon Calder told the Belfast Telegraph: "The imagination, energy and investment that went into Titanic Belfast keeps paying dividends".
"For many years, any tourist who cared to do some research would, of course, discover Northern Ireland has plenty to offer," he said. "But to attract worldwide attention a destination needs a world-class attraction on a breathtaking scale."
Titanic Belfast was the only entry from across Ireland to pick up a gong at the European Group Travel Awards.
