Toyota car production plummets after quake
Toyota Motor Corp said its car production in Japan plummeted 62.7% in March due to a parts supply crunch following the earthquake and tsunami.
Toyota, the world's top-selling carmaker last year, said its domestic production in March was 129,491 vehicles. It's global production dropped 29.9% year-on-year to 542,465 vehicles for the month. The magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami on March 11 destroyed many factories in north eastern Japan. The supply crunch forced Toyota to suspend production in Japan, resulting in a production loss of 260,000 cars so far.
