Trailer manufacturer gets hitched to retail giant in £600k supply deal
A Northern Ireland trailer manufacturer has linked up to Asda in a new deal worth £600,000.
Toomebridge firm SDC Trailers will supply GRP Box Van trailers in its first-ever contract with the supermarket giant.
Established in 1978, over the past 18 months the company has taken on 120 new staff, and has plans to employ 30 more before the end of the year.
SDC was congratulated on its announcement by NIO Minister of State Mike Penning while on a visit to the plant.
SDC managing director Mark Cuskeran said that the company had grown strongly in recent years, bucking the trend across the manufacturing sector.
"Crucially, we'd like to thank our staff whom have worked in partnership with management in recent years, to lower our costs and ensure our competitiveness," he said.
"The key to the future growth and development of the company, and continued job creation, will be in retaining that competitiveness combined with our outstanding products." Mr Penning added: "Northern Ireland has world-beating companies, such as SDC Trailers, and it's a great place to do business.
"That's a message we'll emphasise again when the Executive hosts a G8-themed investment conference in October which the Prime Minister will attend.
"I was delighted to visit SDC Trailers in Toomebridge, one of our leading companies and which provides over 400 high-quality private-sector jobs that are helping Northern Ireland to compete in the global race," said Mr Penning.
