Transport firm seals VW deal

A Co Tyrone transport firm is aiming to make millions in the Great Britain market over the next two years and has secured a contract with Volkswagen.

Taxi and Bus Conversions in Dungannon adapts wheelchair accessible vehicles, including taxis and minibuses, to service the mobility market and works with a range of manufacturing companies and sells its adapted motors to customers across Ireland.

Invest NI offered Taxi and Bus Conversions £15,000 towards a £140,000 investment by the company to help the business expand into England, Scotland and Wales and strengthen its partnership with Motability and Volkswagen.

The firm has appointed a new sales manager to drive awareness of the company outside Northern Ireland, undertake promotional activities and secure new sales.

As a result of the overall investment, Taxi and Bus Conversions has secured an agreement with a number of Volkswagen van centres to sell its wheelchair-accessible Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life into the UK market.

Taxi and Bus Conversions' David Donnell said that the company is targeting £2m worth of new business in Great Britain over the next 24 months.
