Tyre group celebrates half century with new buy
Family-owned firm Modern Tyres has announced a fresh acquisition in the Republic of Ireland as it marks half a century in business.
The Fermanagh-based tyre retailer said it is planning to buy a depot in the Dublin area but would not give the name of the business. Modern Tyres is the biggest independent tyre retailer in Ireland and employs 200 people in 40 branches. Two years ago it spent £1m on 11 depots formerly run by Hanover in the Republic.
Group general manager Charles Corscadden said: "Modern Tyres has been a hugely successful company since its inception by Jimmy Byrne in 1965. Strategic acquisitions, solid partnerships with tyre manufacturers and an unrivalled level of customer service have enabled us to grow into Ireland's largest independent tyre retailer.
