UAE dessert deal tastes sweet for Dromore business Cottage Catering

By Staff Reporter

A family food business from Co Down will be supplying desserts to a major supermarket in the United Arab Emirates.

Cottage Catering's deal with retailer Spinneys is its first business in the UAE, and was announced during an Invest NI trade mission to the region.

The Dromore firm, which employs 63 people, will supply eight dessert products from its range of cheesecakes, trifles and sundaes to 15 stores across UAE.

Its general manager Austin Moore said: "This is a very exciting development for us in a completely new and dynamic market. We've been encouraged by the feedback from customers to our range of products.

"We are working closely with the team at Spinneys to exploit what is a very significant new business opportunity that was brokered by Invest NI, which introduced us to the retailer and helped us to develop a cost-effective and highly professional route to market by way of Pan Euro Foods in Dublin."

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster congratulated Cottage Catering on its UAE success.

She said: "Dubai is the latest market developed by the company following a series of deals for its range of desserts in Europe including the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden.

"The contract with such an influential and respected retailer as Spinneys positions Cottage Catering for fast growth in a very vibrant and discerning marketplace."
