Ulster golf resort's £1m deal with operator to boost tourist numbers

A plush golfing resort in Co Fermanagh is celebrating after confirming a £1m contract with a leading tour operator.

Tauck World Discovery has quadrupled its number of tours to the Lough Erne Resort and has announced it will extend the partnership into 2011 and 2012.

Jonathan Stapleton, general manager at Lough Erne Resort said that the partnership would benefit the economy and tourism industry by boosting visitor numbers to the Co Fermanagh area and resort.

"Earlier this year we secured our first-ever Tauck Tours contract and welcomed over 400 North American guests during 10 different tours between May and September," he said.

"Feedback from these international guests was extremely positive and, as a result, Tauck Tours have just confirmed that they will be increasing the number of tours from 10 to a total of 39 for 2011, with a similar number envisaged for 2012."

Lough Erne Resort also plans to attract international guests through an Incentive Tour Group partnership with The Westbury in Dublin, Gleneagles in Scotland and The Merchant Hotel, Belfast.

The resort's golf course was designed by Nick Faldo.
