US computer company to slash 640 positions

A firm which provides computer services to UK companies has announced plans to cut 640 jobs.

US-based Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) started a 90-day consultation with unions yesterday, saying in a statement: "The IT services market is changing, and our customers want competitive, new services."

Unite said the announcement was a "body blow" which had left employees feeling "devastated".
