Waitrose honours James Street South for the third time
James Street South has been named best restaurant in Northern Ireland in the Waitrose Good Food Guide awards.
The high-end Belfast eatery, owned by husband and wife Niall and Joanne McKenna, triumphed in the Readers' Restaurant of the Year Awards for the third time.
The awards are organised by the upmarket grocer's food guide and honour the best independent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the UK.
Waitrose Good Food Guide editor Elizabeth Carter said readers called James Street South "perfect".
"This is a restaurant that has always pushed the boundaries of new combinations of flavours and tastes, with a great wine menu and good value lunch and dinner deals."
Niall McKenna, head chef of the James Street South group, which also includes the Bar + Grill, Hadskis, the Cookery School and Cast & Crew, said: "We are incredibly proud to receive this honour, which is a fantastic endorsement."
He said the company's apprentice scheme was also cultivating future talent.
