The Big Interview
Janice Tracey, Chief Executive, Londonderry Chamber of Commerce
1. HOW’S BUSINESS?
Following on from a really successful 2007, with the Chamber welcoming a wide
range of high profile visitors including Bertie Ahern and Ian Paisley, 2008
has seen steady progress. Membership has increased by 25% over the last year
and we are looking forward to forging ahead with our strategy to support
more and more businesses in their growth plans. We expect membership numbers
to continue to grow and the level of private sector engagement to get bigger
and better.

HOW’S BUSINESS? Business is great, we are in a strong position after our recent acquisition of Pall Mall, the UK cleaning and security services arm of Carillion plc and we are continuing to grow our operations all the time. So far in 2008 we have won new contracts throughout the UK and Ireland worth over £10m.

Firstly, how's business? Business is good. It is pleasing that as BDO Stoy Hayward recently celebrated almost two decades of doing business in Northern Ireland, we also recorded the best year since the firm was established in 1989.

HOW’S BUSINESS? Business is challenging at the moment. Advertising is one of the first things to be effected by a lack of consumer confidence. Now more than ever we need to demonstrate to local business that print and online advertising works, that advertising is a valuable part of the marketing mix and that advertising delivers a return on investment.
