Bidding will show Northern Ireland's potential

On the one hand, the fact one of Northern Ireland's few listed companies looks to be the target of at least one amorous suitor is a shame.

Andor Technologies is one of our most impressive success stories and by coming under ownership of the likes of Oxford Instruments, there's a chance we could lose the right to call it homegrown.

But progress comes at a cost and rather than mourn the potential loss of a gem, we should be celebrating the fact it has performed so well.

No doubt the haggling will go on for some time and will likely draw in a few other offers – which will only shine a spotlight in the potential for the sector in Northern Ireland.
