Ex-Taoiseach showing how he rose to the top

A dinner in Dublin – the Deloitte Best Managed Company Awards – offered up the chance to hear former Taoiseach John Bruton speak to 700 business people.

After hearing Mr Bruton speak it's clear to see how his powers of oration helped him rise to political power.

His take on the causes of the financial crisis saw him point the finger at a desire by us in the west to keep up with soaring levels of growth in Asia and the east. The only way we could do that was to leverage ourselves to levels which would ultimately prove unsustainable.

He also touched on the UK's membership of the Europe, which he felt was vital for the Republic and Northern Ireland.

It was a pleasure to see some of the finest Northern Ireland companies more than holding their own.

Awards like these prove that no matter how difficult the economic situation there are still plenty of companies forging great businesses.
