Excellence achieved even when the going is tough

In recent months market conditions have caused unexpected and sometimes unwelcome changes but, in changed conditions, the achievement of excellence in completed contracts is still a telling yardstick.

The changed market conditions have not taken away the competitive advantages of offering the best quality and value for money to clients.

The Property Awards exist to commend excellence. When business is tough and competition is sharper, excellence in delivery is possibly an even bigger achievement than when times were easier.

Property and development businesses have faced new tensions in 2008. The tensions vary from sector to sector.

None of us forecast the scale of the downturn in the market for new houses, even though there was an expectation of some reaction to the inflated market of 2007.

The recovery will come in a very changed market place.

The Government strategic investment programme promises extra impetus. Delivery has been more complicated and subject to variations in capital commitments. Nevertheless, the public sector remains a big customer, whether direct or indirect.

Tall cranes are still active over the commercial and industrial sectors in some urban areas, particularly Belfast. Shortly, the top floors of new properties will dwarf the existing skyline.

To builders and developers the challenge of the Property Awards is obvious: if you have done ‘it’, then flaunt ‘it’ by entering the awards.

Recognition and approbation by your critics and fellow entrepreneurs is an award that is worth having ?and the value endures!
