Northern Ireland woman (80) fighting crime in Brazil and making money by watching internet cameras

'Barbara is way up there on the watcher leaderboard...usually in the top three'

Co Down woman Barbara Morrow is fighting crime 5,000 miles away from her home in Ballyhalbert.

Business Insider explains that the 80-year-old retired shopkeeper uses a service called Internet Eyes, an online system that helps companies in Brazil reduce crime by having its users watch online security cameras.

If users spot anything suspicious they hit an alert button and file a report.

A report might say: "Lady in red coat put chocolate in her pocket."

The report is then sent to the shop owner who can take appropriate action. The user then gets paid for their work.

Ms Morrow said: "I just like catching shoplifters I think I should have been a vigilante or something."

Internet Eyes and Ms Morrow were recently featured on the podcast Codebreaker which explored the use of surveillance cameras in society.

Codebreaker host Ben Johnson said: "Barbara is way up there on the watcher leaderboard...usually in the top three."
