Twitter's oldest user IvyBean104 dies

The world's oldest Twitter and Facebook user, Ivy Bean, has died at the age of 104.

The great-grandmother, who lived at a residential home at Hillside Manor in Bradford, had clocked up around 56,000 followers on the micro-blogging site.

She had been unwell for a number of weeks but staff at the care home continued to update fans with her progress. Her death was announced on her Twitter page, @IvyBean104.

In series of Tweets this morning the manager of Ms Bean's care home said: "Hello all of Ivy's Twitter friends. By now you will have heard about our dear friend.

"I cannot explain how we are all feeling here. Ivy passed away peacefully at 12.08 this morning. Sorry it took me so long to tell you but it was a very difficult thing to do."

Former Deputy PM John Prescott was among the first to pay tribute.

He said: "So sad to hear Ivy Bean has died. An inspiration to tweeters young & old & proof you don't stop learning after 65! Rest in peace Ivy."

Ms Bean was a fan of 90's popstar and TV presenter Peter Andre. He was said to have been in touch with her on daily basis since she fell ill.

One of Ms Bean's last Tweets read: "Oh what a loverly day this is i have had a big bunch of flowers sent from lesly in australia they are loverly thank you very much."

Ivy first gained 'celebrity' status when she joined Facebook at the age of 102.
