WhatsApp email scam tricks people into installing viruses
Anyone who receives an email claiming to be from WhatsApp with a subject line saying 'Missed Call' is being warned not to open it.
The content of the mail reads 'New Voice Message'.
There's also a 'Play' button in the email for you to 'listen' to your message - which will download a trojan virus if you click on it.
Cybercrime experts ESET Ireland said: "Clicking on the link will begin the download of a trojan... that usually redirects the browser to a malicious URL or implements a specific exploit."
Trojan infections can expose the computer to ransomware and end up locking your files. It then demands a ransom of money.
WhatsApp users are advised to log into their accounts the standard way to check for any messages.
