Not chicken when it comes to expansion

Monday, 23 April 2007

Moy Park is Northern Ireland’s largest food processing company and one of Europe’s leading poultry companies.

The company produces a range of chicken products which it supplies to retail and foodservice customers across Europe.

Operations are based in Northern Ireland, England, France and Holland and Moy Park is part of Chicago-based OSI Group LLC.

It has arrived at its position through substantial investments at the Northern Ireland, English and French plants and by responding to consumer trends with innovative products.

At an initial cost of £28m, the group’s latest processing plant is at Anwick, Lincolnshire and it has undergone an extensive transformation to make it welfare-friendly and production efficient. It has been modelled on Moy Park’s processing facility in Dungannon where the group has invested £36m since 2000. Anwick now has advanced technology to help streamline production.

Moy Park has an agriculture division which strengthens its involvement with the farming industry. This division supplies hatching eggs to a significant proportion of the total European market. In addition to standard chicken, the company is recog-nised as one of the largest growers of organic, free range and corn-fed birds in Europe.

Its development took a major step forward in 2004 with the acquisition of two major English chicken processing companies, Dove Valley and GW Padley Poultry, which have been fully integrated into the group. In 2006 the group brought Kitchen Range Foods and AvZ, speciality food companies, under its wing.

Moy Park has also won recognition for its business and community activities.

It reinforced its positive impact on the local community by achieving Business in the Community’s PerCent standard again – donating at least 1% of pre-tax profits to the community. These activities included charity donations and sponsorship, diversity training, involvement with local schools and an essential skills programme.

The company’s workforce is composed of a diverse range of people with different backgrounds, education and talents.

Team development is at the core of its success as an Investors In People-accredited training provider, including one of the UK’s leading workplace programmes for adult literacy and numeracy.
