FOLLOWING a difficult year in 2003/4, Ulster Carpets
achieved a complete turnaround in performance by implementing a radical new
business plan primarily concentrating on the top end segment of its
traditional woven Axminster markets, retail and contract.
It also
sold its subsidiaries in South Africa and Australia to accelerate its
investment programme in world-leading Axminster technology at its Portadown
site.
This enables it to achieve the high efficiency levels to
compete against low labour cost countries such as China.
