Halifax’s office at Belfast’s Gasworks on the Ormeau Road is one of the mortgage lender and savings provider’s largest call centres. During its construction in 2000 the £45m site was the largest new build of its kind in Northern Ireland.
HBOS was formed in 2001 from the merger of Bank of Scotland and the Halifax Bank.
It has since become part of the Lloyds Banking Group, which is 43% owned by the taxpayer after the Government was forced to bailout Lloyds following the merger with HBOS.
In November 2009 Halifax said 120 jobs at its mortgage operations at the Gasworks were to go as part of wider cuts by the Lloyds Banking Group, although it said most would be redeployed to ther roles in the Belfast area.
Bank of Scotland (Ireland) is also a subsidiary of HBOS and has one branch in Northern Ireland.
