A management buyout in December 2012 has seen VION’s UK pork business renamed as Karro Food Group, apparently derived from the Latin word for meat, caro.

The pork processor owns the Cookstown brand in Northern Ireland and the Republic and supplies fresh pork, cured and cooked meats along with frozen burgers and sausages to retailers, food service and manufacturing customers.

The buyout, which was completed in January 2013, had raised fears for the future of the Cookstown plant but the management, led by Seamus Carr, have pledged to reinvigorate the business. The management were backed in the deal by private equity firm Endless.
