Turnover: £331m
Pre-tax profit: £62.2m

The AES Corporation, a US-based global power company, first entered the local energy market back in 1992 by acquiring the Kilroot Power Station (622 MW dual-fueled coal/oil) and increased its stake in Northern Ireland in 2010 by purchasing the larger Ballylumford plant (1,080 MW gas fired). This move establishes AES as Northern Ireland’s largest electricity provider and sees it operating within the Single Electricity Market - representing nearly 18% of the installed capacity in the all-island market.
