Belfast International Airport handled almost 4.2m passengers in 2011, a 3% increase on 2010, and one of only a small number of UK airports to register annual growth in the current economic environment.

The last phase of the multi-million terminal reconfiguration was finalized in June.

During the course of the year easyJet re-established London Luton services alongside their other London flights and announced plans to open up a brand new London area gateway to London Southend from April 2012. They also unveiled new services to Manchester and Malta from the airport during 2011.

Another key milestone during the course of the year was the commitment from the UK Chancellor to reduce Long Haul Air Passenger Duty from Belfast, effective 01 November 2011, securing the future of the daily United Airlines Belfast - New York flights.
