It's time to get your cameras and mobile phones at the ready for the Belfast Telegraph’s third ‘One Summer’s Day’ photography competition.
Following the huge success of last year’s competition, the Belfast Telegraph and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) have again teamed up to launch the province’s biggest mass participation photographic event.
We’re calling on everyone to pick up a camera on a specific day this summer — Saturday, June 30 — and take a photograph that illustrates what Northern Ireland means to them.
Participants are in with a chance to win a fabulous family hotel or self-catering break in Northern Ireland, courtesy of NITB. The photograph should be sent via email to email@example.com with a short note explaining the content of the picture and what makes it so special.
Belfast Telegraph Picture Editor Gerry FitzGerald said he had no idea how widely One Summer’s Day would capture the hearts and imaginations of so many people when it was launched two years ago. He expects this year’s event to be bigger and better than ever.
“The photograph should be of a particular place that means something to you for whatever reason,” he said.
Entries will be split into three categories — one for primary school children, one for secondary school children, and a third category for everyone else. Entrants should mark their age and category when submitting their entry.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve taken the photograph on your mobile phone or an expensive digital camera. This competition is about choosing the right place at the right time and capturing a moment,” added Gerry.
Participants will have the opportunity to have their photograph featured on the Belfast Telegraph website’s picture gallery or on NITB’s website www.discovernorthernireland.com.
The top 100 photographs will also be included in a special commemorative supplement. Closing date for entries is Thursday, July 12, with winners to be announced in September.
Prior to June 30, the Telegraph and NITB are asking readers to tell us where in Northern Ireland you would like to photograph and why.
