50 new jobs at Connswater

A £6million investment in Connswater Shopping Centre, by owners Killultagh Estates Ltd, will create 50 new jobs it was announced this week.

The major extension and refurbishment programme at the east Belfast retail hub will expand its existing premises by 40,000 sq ft to make room for more retailers.

The multi-million pound project is expected to be finished in time for the Christmas rush this year.

As part of the rejuvenation the main entrance will be transformed into a modern glass structure.

Connswater manager Gerry Monaghan said the shopping centre would stay open as refurbishment work gets under way.

“The centre is undergoing a refurbishment programme to ensure our customers get the best service and thoroughly enjoy their shopping experience,” added Mr Monaghan.

An additional deck has already been added to the current car park, creating a total of 850 free customer car parking spaces, including family friendly, disabled and taxi pick-up spaces adjacent to the shopping centre, said the Connswater manager.

The revitalised shopping centre will boast four new self-contained retail units and include a state-of-the-art food court on its revamped first floor.
