Run the extra mile for children
Wednesday, 14 January 2009
NSPCC Northern Ireland is urging people from east Belfast to kick start their new year’s resolutions and help in its battle to end child cruelty by running in the Belfast City Marathon.
Taking place on Monday, May 4, people can chose to run the full 26 miles, organise a relay team, walk with friends or take part in either the wheelchair mar-athon or fun run.
Rebecca McPolin who is running the marathon for the NSPCC said: “The new year is a chance for everyone to review how they can contribute, whether big or small, to creating a better future for vulnerable children in Northern Ireland.
“Supporting the NSPCC by running the marathon is my chance to contribute positively to issues I feel very strongly about. I know that anything I raise will be used to support the services and children and young people that need it.”
She added: “Preparing for the marathon has already had a positive impact on me. I go the gym more regularly as part of my training and I feel much healthier.”
NSPCC community fundraising executive, Clare McKenzie said: “We are extremely grateful to Rebecca for running the Belfast City Marathon for the NSPCC.
“Taking part in an event like this is a tough mental and physical challenge, but it is an incredibly rewarding experience which I hope Rebecca enjoys.”
