Almost 100 years after the Titanic was built, a 30ft replica section of the ship's bow has been constructed to bring the ship back to life and celebrate the skills and innovation of Belfast ship workers.

The public is invited to the unveiling of the mammoth project which is situated alongside the Titanic Dock and Pumphouse in the Northern Ireland Science Park, Queen's Island, Belfast, on Sunday June 20, at 5.30pm.

Speaking about the event, Spencer Kelly, Producer from Twenty Twenty Television said We hope that the people of Belfast and beyond will come along to see the unveiling of this great icon and believe they will begin to get a sense of scale while better understanding the skills and innovation that Belfast was once synonymous with.”

The reconstructed bow has been created by the production company for the forthcoming Channel 4 and National Geographic TV series 'We Built Titanic'

Mr Kelly continues: “The programme is attempting to show the level of expertise of manufacturing in the Edwardian era and in particular here in Belfast within the shipbuilding industry.”

Mervyn Watley, Facilities Manager at the NI Science Park said: “We were delighted to support this project which will greatly bring the Titanic legacy to life and look forward to viewing the programme in the autumn.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to come down to this unique unveiling event as unfortunately the replica bow structure will only be left temporarily.”

As part of the event there will be an opportunity to meet the show's presenters and the engineering team responsible for the construction.

Guided tours of the Titanic Dock and Pumphouse site will be available all afternoon and the Pumphouse café will remain open until 7pm. At 6pm a short ceremony will take place to officially unveil the structure. As space may be limited near the structure, members of the public are advised to get there early and no later than 5.30 pm. The event will be finished by 7pm

Northern Ireland Science Park is providing car parking free of charge but spaces are limited.
