Quiz hopes to raise £25k for local baby charity
Wednesday, 24 September 2008
Over lunchtime on Friday (September 26) civil servants, local government officials and staff from local businesses will sit down in canteens and offices across Northern Ireland, get out the sandwiches, sharpen their pencils and compete in the world’s biggest ‘Megaquiz’.
The quizmaster and mistress for this Guinness Book of Records World Record attempt will be award-winning DJs Mark and Vicky, hosts of CityBeat’s morning show.
But the real winner will be TinyLife, Northern Ireland's premature and vulnerable baby charity, dedicated to reducing premature birth, illness, disability and death in babies born here, as participating teams are being asked to raise £50 sponsorship for the charity. If all goes well, NICSSA hope to present a cheque for £25,000 to TinyLife.
The Northern Ireland Civil Service Sports Association (NICSSA), the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) with the support and help of the BT (NI) Conferencing Team, Microsoft, Barclays Bank and CityBeat Radio have all joined forces to host the event.
The quiz will be projected as a ‘live’ video link on to the worldwide web. Our sports and recreation clubs are established in Government buildings across Northern Ireland and therefore are well placed to help; by setting up computers, projectors, screens and then on the day will act as facilitators.
No matter where you work, and no matter how small your office is, as long as your office computer has internet access and a sound card, you will be able to hear and see the quiz as it is projected live.
To register or for more information call Paul Robinson at the NICSSA on 9052 2690.
The big question yet to be answered is whether or not staff based in Newry, Ballymena, Belfast or Enniskillen will come out as being the brightest workers in Northern Ireland.
For the winning team £1,000 worth of vouchers are up for grabs, as well as tickets to TinyLife’s annual dinner and the opportunity to audition for BBC2’s Eggheads quiz.
Join in and help us help you to become a world record holder.
Kieran Devlin, NICSSA marketing officer
