Take a giant step next month to raise money for charity

Wednesday, 30 September 2009

The national Trust is calling for CT readers to support its ‘Giant Walk’ to help raise monies for the Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site.

The conservation charity has been joined by Flahavan’s porridge for the sponsored walk, and is appealing to members, supporters and the local community to join in on ‘A Giant Walk’ on Saturday, October 24, and help Finn McCool put a giant foot forward for the Giant’s Causeway.

There are three walks planned for the day. The walks to choose from include a two-mile Giant mini steps walk for mums, dads and wee small giants, a six-mile Giant stroll, and for those who are enthusiastic about walking, there’s an 11-mile Giant walk.

All three walks, which have different start times, will meet at the Giant’s Causeway in the afternoon.

The 11-mile long Giant Walk travels along the breath-taking Causeway Coast headlands from Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge to the wonderful Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site. Set off from Carrick-a-Rede car park where, along with a team of wardens and volunteers, walkers will take in the stunning coast line whilst helping raise money for a giant cause. This walk will leave at 9.30am and lasts between five and six hours.

For those preferring a shorter walk, the six-mile Giant stroll will set off from Dunseverick Castle car park to the Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site across the stunning North Antrim coast headland. This walk will leave at 12.30am and lasts around three hours.

Mums, dads and children can come along to our Giant mini-steps walk from Portballintrae to the Giant’s Causeway. This walk will leave at 2pm and is around one hour long.

Join the National Trust and people from all walks of life as together we step out for a giant cause. Don your walking boots, wrap up warm, and enjoy some of Northern Ireland's most special and stunning headland as collectively we take giant steps towards raising funds for the Giant's Causeway and Causeway coast world heritage site.

You can invite family and friends to sponsor you and your little giants as you get on your boots and join us. Personal fundraising forms can be downloaded from www.agiantcause.com.

If you are unable to join us but would like to send some Giant Love from you and your little giants, you can go online and make a donation directly to the personal fundraising pages.

Why do we treat cyber crime so harshly, yet let thugs off lightly?

Andy Warhol famously predicted that there would come a time when everybody would be famous for 15 minutes. I have a counter-theory. There may come a time when everyone will be private for 15 minutes.

It's not just working class who are stuck in sectarian bunkers

There is a grim irony in DUP and Sinn Fein politicians warning about the dangers of sectarianism but Jonathan Bell and Martina Anderson were correct in saying that bigotry isn't just a working-class thing: "Many communities may not paint their kerb stones or put out flags, but scratch the surface and you find the prejudice and the hate whispered behind closed doors or joked about in golf clubs or over dinner parties."
