It will be a family affair for Belfast's Fortwilliam Musical Society when it holds its newest production, Fiddler on the Roof, next month.

The company boasts several generations of talented family players, including Hilary Cush and his son Tim, as well as Ronan Corrigan, who will play Mordcha the Innkeeper, and his daughter Joanne Corrigan, who will take on the role of Grandma Tzetiel.

There are also several generations of the Hayes/Sweeney clan, with grandmother Kathleen Hayes, mother Nuala Sweeney and granddaughter Maria Sweeney, who is playing the fiery Fruma Sarah, all taking to the stage.

And Siobhan Farrell, who plays the part of Golde, will be joining her real life daughter Ciara, who'll be playing her onstage daughter.

So it's fitting that the company has chosen an old family favourite for its annual performance in Belfast's Waterfront Studio.

Grace Burbage and Irene Cairns, granddaughter and wife respectively of Fortwilliams’ long-standing musical director, William Cairns, will also be treading the boards.

Mr Cairns was recently recognised for his contribution to music in Northern Ireland and beyond with an MBE.

The critically-acclaimed and award-winning musical society is now in its 31st year, and is still going strong.

The show will run from March 2 until March 7, at 7.30pm nightly, and tickets are priced from £14 from the Waterfront Studio Box Office.

For more information on the group, visit www.fortwilliammusicalsociety.co.uk.

Why do we treat cyber crime so harshly, yet let thugs off lightly?

Andy Warhol famously predicted that there would come a time when everybody would be famous for 15 minutes. I have a counter-theory. There may come a time when everyone will be private for 15 minutes.

It's not just working class who are stuck in sectarian bunkers

There is a grim irony in DUP and Sinn Fein politicians warning about the dangers of sectarianism but Jonathan Bell and Martina Anderson were correct in saying that bigotry isn't just a working-class thing: "Many communities may not paint their kerb stones or put out flags, but scratch the surface and you find the prejudice and the hate whispered behind closed doors or joked about in golf clubs or over dinner parties."
