Wine of the week: Montepulciano
Wednesday, 2 April 2008
Montepulciano is a lively, bright wine with juicy, red cherry succulence.
Ripe and smooth with a lingering, slightly peppery finish, it is an intensely fruity, vibrant red made mostly from the classic Italian grape Montepulciano.
It also has a little Sangiovese to soften and smooth the texture.
The fruit comes from the Abruzzo region, which enjoyed an excellent vintage in 2003.
This wine is delicious with pasta, red meat or spicy sausage.
It is available from Marks and Spencer priced at £3.74 and is ready to drink now but will keep for a further six months from the date of purchase. Once opened the wine will remain in good condition for up to 2 days if resealed and stored in a cool place.
