A group of students from a north Belfast school have won a substantial prize in the regional final of a competition aimed at inspiring young people to embrace innovation and creativity.

Forth River Primary School won £1,000 and a laptop computer in The Big Idea, a competition organised by Advantage, Invest Northern Ireland and their enterprise partners.

The initiative encouraged a culture of enterprise and innovation through the development of creative business proposals by young students and social entrepreneurs across Northern Ireland.

As finalists they were guests of honour at a glittering ceremony hosted by presenter and musician Myleene Klass during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

The Ballygomartin students had the bright idea of designing and selling cards for all occasions. Each card will carry information on the back from the Forum for Action against Substance Abuse (FASA), its work and its contact details in order to help tack the growing problem of substance abuse in their area. The £1,000 prize money will help the students put their ideas into practice.

The Big Idea! gala final was organised by Invest NI and sponsored by the Department of Education and the Department for Employment and Learning.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Parties need better defence in Stormont's game of two halves

Surprise, surprise. Peter Robinson has been to his first gaelic match, Martin McGuinness is heading for Windsor Park and the Ulster Unionists have scored another own goal.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
