Graffiti daubed on Orange Hall
Tuesday, 30 June 2009
A north Belfast Orange Hall was daubed in sectarian graffiti in a weekend attack.
Greencastle Orange Hall, on the Whitewell Road, was covered in slogans such as “CIRA” sometime between Saturday and Sunday.
The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned the incident.
North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has condemned those responsible for the attack on Greencastle Orange Hall.
He said: “Once again Greencastle Orange Hall has fallen victim to a sectarian attack carried out by republican bigots.
“This is a repeated and long-running sore. Clearly some criminal elements believe that the hall is an easy target for their sectarian law-breaking.
“To daub the hall in Continuity IRA slogans and sectarian graffiti demonstrates that the criminals responsible for this attack are blinded by hatred toward the protestant community in Greencastle and beyond.
“I would urge anyone with information about this disgraceful attack to come forward to the police.
“There is a special obligation upon those in leadership within the nationalist community to encourage co-operation with the forces of law and order to ensure the criminals responsible for this disgraceful attack are brought before the courts,” the local MP added.
A spokeswoman for the PSNI said they had no report of the incident.
