BIRDS OF PREY DISPLAY AT BELFAST ZOO

DISCOVER the natural skills of the zoo’s birds of prey during this special event on May 22 and 23.

Meet birds such as falcons, hawks, buzzards, vultures, kestrels and barn owls in the education centre from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

LET’S GO BATTY AT BELFAST ZOO

JOIN Belfast Zoo for a night walk around the zoo from 8pm to 10pm on May 22.

Use your bat detector to find the ultrasonic noises of bats which are native to Northern Ireland.

Booking is essential for this event and tickets cost £5 per person.

LOCAL LIBRARY EVENTS

THERE are various events happening at your local library.

There is story time for under eights every Saturday at 11.30pm at Chichester Library.

There will be rhythm and rhyme every Tuesday at 2pm at Ligoniel Library. It is suitable for babies and toddlers accompanied by parents and carers.

Ligoniel will also host story time every Friday at 3.30pm, which is suitable for under 10s.

Glengormley Library will also be putting on a story time every Thursday at 3.30pm for children of primary school age.

Festival goes to the Waterworks event

FOLLOWING last year’s successful Festival Goes To The Waterworks event, the 2010 Belfast Children’s Festival will be bringing the event back this week.

It will be on at the Antrim Road park on May 22, from 12pm to 8pm.

The park will be dressed up with tree chandeliers and giant polka dots made by local groups and artists — even the water will be transformed with colourful dyes for the one day.

With free entertainment, workshops, the Wheelworks ArtCart, a moving Flea Circus, circus performances including the Lords of Strut, Seamus McJuggler, Lungi the Puppeteer and many, many more plus the North Belfast Play Forum providing sports activities like soccer and basketball — this fun filled day will be a big hit with the whole family.

Highlights from the event include;

An open air music arena bringing together headline acts the Inishowen Gospel Choir, Cara Cowan and A Plastic Rose plus many more.

New young rising stars like Isobel Anderson, the Colly strings and Goodbye Pluto will entertain families throughout the day.

A special children’s market will be present with a unique collection of stalls that have everything from local art and alternative crafts to food and drink.

A skate park: Watch a spectacular demonstration of extreme sports by the BMX jump crew who will perform choreographed routines that will amaze you.

The team will show you how to get involved and give you free passes to UNIT13, Ireland’s only indoor skatepark.

Bring a picnic for a really great day out.

The event has been made possible through the support of Tesco and funding from the International Fund for Ireland through the Rural Development Council and the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Belfast Peace Plan under PEACE III.

Star In The Making: Musical Review

STUDENTS from the Lynne McAllister Vocal Academy perform hits from Broadway and West End Musicals in their end of year review.

Lynne McAllister, directs the performances of her students with the possibility that the next musical theatre star is in our midst and she will be performing at the Courtyard Theatre on June 5.

A Dream Away

A DREAM Away, takes us into the dreamy world of Kati and it is showing at the Courtyard Theatre on June 9.

Katie lives with her aunt Lolly and often daydreams about travelling the world and becoming a pop-star.

Her friend Peter calls round to see her with his travel book. Before Katie knows it, she is transported into a world of magic along with a cat, a dog, a bin and Peter. She visits all the places she’s dreamed of, although, not quite as she expected and ends up on the X-Factor.Will this be what she dreamed of or will it end up a nightmare?
