Police in Bangor are warning shoppers to be aware of thieves after a number of handbag thefts last Thursday (October 4).
They have told shoppers to be aware of their surroundings and to be careful of their valuables - particularly handbags and purses.
The advice follows reports of thefts of handbags and purses from customers - mainly in charity shops .
Inspector Andy Culbert, Bangor Neighbourhood Policing team said: "This level of opportunistic thefts thankfully is not a regular occurrence in Bangor, however we should not be complacent."
He said anyone noticing anything suspicious should contact police immediately.
"We are continuing our patrols and officers will be distributing purse bells and chains to shoppers in the next few days and weeks."
Stephen Dunlop, town centre manager, told the Community Telegraph: "These incidents are incredibly rare in and around the town centre. In recent years this is the only incident that has been brought to our attention."
Police have said that for further advice on personal safety people can contact their local neighbourhood team on 0845 600 8000.
