Ards Borough Council is offering sponsorship for tourism events, including a ‘premium award’ of up to £20,000 for an event of world class standing.
The Council wants to support events which will attract visitors and help to enhance the profile of Ards as an appealing tourism destination between April 2011-March 2012.
Alastair McDowell, Events Development Officer with the Council, explained: “Tourism is a major part of the Ards’ economy and continues to have potential for growth. While the area’s natural beauty and visitor attractions continue to draw visitors, we can add to the appeal by ensuring we also offer wide-ranging, quality events to suit all tastes,” he said. “The reintroduction also of the premium sponsorship award, which in the past has gone to events of the calibre of the Ballygraffan Horse Trials, is intended to encourage the development of an event which has the ability to attract an international audience and so contribute substantially to the economic benefits which we derive from tourism”.
