Ards beach awards

Two beaches in Ards have received coastal awards for their natural, unspoilt beauty.

Millisle Beach Park received the Green Coast Award from TIDY Northern Ireland, while Cloughey Community Association took the Clean Coast Award for its contributions to maintaining Cloughey beach.

The new award programme, which is sponsored by Coca Cola Bottlers (Ulster) Ltd, aims to improve and promote the local environment through water quality, safety, litter and waste, and information and education on the beach.

“These awards confirm that Ards has some of the most beautiful coastline in Northern Ireland and that our beaches all benefit from the care and attention, not just of the council, but of the local communities who live on or close to the sea. This kind of endorsement from an organisation like TIDY Northern Ireland is a boost to the area and will undoubtedly help to attract even more visitors,” said the Mayor of Ards, Councillor Jim Fletcher.
