Hughes Insurance to create 200 jobs in Newtownards

Hughes Insurance has announced plans for a £2 million expansion in Newtownards.

The move will result in the creation of around 200 jobs by February 2011 with building work beginning at the Jubilee Road site this week.

The company said the expansion would double the size of the premises and that it was currently recruiting another 20 employees "to cater for the ongoing growth of its customer base".

Hughes Insurance chief executive Gareth Brady said the expansion of the premises in Newtownards was “absolutely essential”.

"We are literally bursting at the seams and have had to relocate our fast growing commercial insurance department to nearby rental accommodation to relieve the pressure on space,” he said.

Strangford MP Jim Shannon said the expansion would further cement jobs in the area.
