Lady Hermon gets up to speed on ambulance rapid response

North Down MP Lady Sylvia Hermon and local paramedic Ricky Bendall

North Down MP Lady Sylvia Hermon recently joined local paramedic Ricky Bendall for part of his Monday night shift on the Rapid Response Vehicle in Newtownards.

Rapid Response Paramedics have been used by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Health and Social Care Trust since 2002 with the sole aim of improving quality and speed of response to all those who have need of the ambulance service.

Speaking afterwards, Lady Hermon said : “Travelling in the Rapid Response Vehicle with Ricky Bendall was a truly worthwhile experience, as I learned so much about its capabilities and those of a paramedic. The sophistication of the communications between NIAS headquarters, our vehicle and, as I discovered, all other ambulances and Rapid Response Vehicles was hugely impressive and reassuring.”
